Cabin
Fredrikstad

Surface: 60 m2
Status: Completed

This new cabin on Kjerringholmen has great south views toward the fjord of Løperen and Ytre Hvaler National Parks. Its shape and materiality are inspired by its site, meant to blend with the rocky terrain and vegetation. The cabin, built on stilts to disturb as little the landscape as possible, taking it as the extension of the indoor space, minimizes the building’s footprint and the degradation of the site.

It is a small, detailed, cozy and efficient wooden cabin, intended to work together with the outside through an emphasis on the connection between exterior and interior, views and bay windows.

Cabin Slevik

Cabin Slevik

Cabin
Fredrikstad

Surface: 90 m2
Status: Completed

The cabin is in Slevikkilen, lying on the typical rocky hills of the Norwegian shore, with a majestic view upon the outer Oslofjord. A wide variety of natural materials makes the interior richly detailed. These materials will age with dignity and acquire a patina, only becoming more refined over time.

The simple and rational square floor plan is surrounded by a veranda which provides direct access to the exterior from each room and opens the building to various views for the different room zones. To the South, a bay window as large as the length of the building gives you a chance to gaze over the sea, and offers plenty of light to the living room, separated from the living room by a brick chimney. To the North, facing the pin tree forest, lies the kitchen and all the different sleeping rooms. In the center, the vertical circulation revolves from the lower floor around the bathroom all the way up to a pyramidal glass skylight. The large overhangs of the roof protect against solar gains in summer and the skylight ensures good natural vertical ventilation on hot days, as well as natural zenithal light to every room.

The cabin is well adapted to the site and lies on top of a concrete base which match the colour of the bare rocky terrain The rock outbursts have been preserved, and the main exterior stairs leading from the living room to the outdoor area merges with the geometry of the site.

The warm wooden furniture of the office contrasts with the metallic framework of the roof and the concrete floor. The offices stand in wooden rooms, providing privacy but also dividing the open space into different areas. For flexibility of use and comfort, you’ll find redundant areas with different gradients of privacy in the office: large, open meeting room, large, enclosed meeting room, smaller open social places, closed phone call room.

A large amount of library and shelves for books runs along the walls under horizontal windows and the archive shelves rise from the floor to height point of the roof in one of the many wooden boxes of the office.

Sentrum Brannstasjon

Sentrum Brannstasjon

Fire Station
Oslo

Surface:  2 000 m2
Status: Unbuilt

The Sentrum Brannstasjon in Oslo lies on Bjørvika, not far from the Akershus fortress, from which the design is inspired from. It is a public building interacting with a historical position in the city. As part of the urban landscape, the parks surrounding the station are public, and offers to admire the fire trucks on display in the double height ground floor.

Materials and colours are both inspired by the historical buildings nearby, as a way to extend the architectural legacy of the past, while also integrating the technologies and needs of our modern society. The wooden structure is one of the many environmentally friendly solutions of the project, as a beacon of sustainable architecture visible by all right in the hearth of Oslo city centre.

Upstairs, a more private floor for offices, rest rooms and meeting rooms use wooden screens for modular privacy in the floor plan. Windows all around the building offers a privileged view on the Oslofjord, the park, the Opera house and other surrounding buildings.

Lyse Montesorriskole

Lyse Montesorri School

School
Oslo

Surface: 1 200 m2
Status: Completed
