Commercial buildings
Fredrikstad

Areal: 255 m²
Status: Under construction

The barn at Tredalen Scouting Center has been developed to provide the scouts with a common meeting place all year round.

The new building replaces a SEFRAK-registered barn in poor condition, and is placed gently in the terrain with step-free access and clear references to the barn's original expression.

The granite columns from the old barn are reused as load-bearing elements, and the same type of granite is used in the wall of the extension. The roof is covered with recycled bricks with a natural patina, which helps the building blend well into the cultural landscape.

The building contains a conference and dining room, kitchen, meeting room, staff room and two bedrooms. It will be used by the Norwegian Scout Association, but will also be able to be rented out for events in the local community.

The facade is clad with wide, vertical red wooden cladding, and the large window openings in the conference wing have side panels with sliding, red-painted wooden mullions. When the barn is not in use, these can be closed, giving the building a robust and holistic expression – adapted to the open and weather-exposed coastal environment on Spjærøy.
